Where to find your figures

Look for covered earnings, the benefit percentage, the maximum monthly benefit, and the elimination period in your benefits summary. Use the amount of earnings your policy counts.

How the math works

Multiply monthly gross covered earnings by the benefit percentage and apply the entered cap. Subtract the resulting benefit from monthly gross earnings. The waiting-period estimate converts monthly earnings to a daily average using 365 days.

Worked example

At $7,000 in monthly gross earnings, 60% gives $4,200 before the cap. A $3,500 cap leaves a modeled monthly gross income gap of $3,500.

What this estimate covers

The estimate assumes no benefit from this policy during the waiting period. Taxes, benefit offsets, excluded pay, eligibility, and payment timing affect what reaches your account.

Common questions

What does an elimination period mean?

It is the waiting period before the policy can start paying benefits for a qualifying disability. Use the number of days in the policy and confirm when the first payment would arrive.

Is my benefit percentage based on everything I earn?

Check the policy’s definition of covered earnings and the monthly benefit maximum. The employer’s plan may treat bonuses, commissions, or other sources of benefits differently. This tool compares gross figures.
